The first direct competitor of 1-Day Acuvue TruEye has arrived. Sauflon is launching Clariti 1-Day on November 6th 2009, and starting to distribute the world's second daily disposable silicone hydrogel lens to eye care professionals in the UK. We tried to dig up as much information as possible and created a comparison chart for you.

Conclusion:

It's too early to call one of the lenses the winner, as we are missing some of the technical parameters of Clariti. Sauflon's Clariti 1-Day will be launched in the UK on Nov 6, 2009. We will update this chart as we learn more about this lens, however Sauflon seems to be ready for an impressive launch. The wider range of available powers will certainly attract consumers that want a daily disposable silicone hydrogel lens but can't currently go with Acuvue TruEye (as far as we know TruEye is only available with powers ranging from -0.50D to -6.00D). With a lower modulus and a thinner design, Clariti is a bit softer than TruEye. But, does Clariti come with UV blocking? We don't know yet.

One last note: Clariti 1-Day will be distributed through Eye Care Professionals only, whereas Acuvue TruEye is already offered by many online retailers in Europe and Asia.
